What to do in Reykjavik, Iceland

A week from now I’ll be in Reykjavik, Iceland. The coolest of all nordic cities and a place I have wanted to visit for a long time. This post is going to tell you all about my plans & hopes for this holiday. So, if you’re planning on visiting Iceland, here is what you might want to consider doing.

Chase the Northern Lights on a boat. Going out on a boat at 10 o’clock at night near the Arctic circle to chase the Northern Lights, wrapped in warm overalls and drinking tea… It just sounds too good. I can’t wait. My advice: We booked our tour via specialtours.is.

Swim in a geothermal lagoon at -5°C. We’re planning on doing exactly that. The Blue Lagoon is a spa set in a lava field in Grindavik about 24 miles from Reykjavik. Its warm waters average 37–39 °C. You can read more about it here.

Do the Golden Circle tour. I read that this tour will take us around some of Iceland’s most stunning sites like the geysirs as in the actual area which gave geysirs their name; and the Gullfoss, a 105 ft deep waterfall. The last stop will be Thingvellir National Park, where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates collide with each other. My advice: You can find out more on Re.is.

Go whale watching. So apart from chasing the Northern Lights, this has to be the highlight of our holiday for me. In fact, seeing a whale would be on my things to do in life list if I had one. I really hope these majestic giants are going to show themselves. You can book a tour via elding.is

Eat a burger at Hamborgarafabrikkan. Apparently Reykjavik’s best burger place, serving hamburgers with a humorous twist. I shall let you know if it was tasty.

Have you been to Reykjavik or elsewhere in Iceland? I’d love to hear about your travel tips.
